What is a screw compressor?

A screw compressor, often also referred to as a rotary compressor, utilises two rotating screws to compress air effectively. This type of compression provides a constant, pulsation-free air supply, which makes it particularly attractive for continuous applications.

Unlike piston compressors, screw compressors use two intermeshing rotors to draw air into the compressor and compress it. There are also no pistons, which means that screw compressors are much quieter and have less vibration than piston compressors. This type of compressors are very efficient and have a relatively long service life.

If they are properly maintained and installed, they can last for many years. Screw compressors are available in pressure ratings of 7, 10 and 13 bar

and are particularly suitable for industrial use. For

sporadic compressed air consumption, screw compressors should be avoided.

The external solution in five variants

Whether you want to retrofit an older BOGE compressor or encourage a third-party compressor to save energy - the BOGE duotherm 15...150 external heat recovery module makes it possible. Any oil-injected screw compressor with an output between 7.5 and 110 kW can be successfully trained to save energy. Good to know: No additional energy is required, the module is simply connected to the compressor's oil circuit.

The topic of heat recovery does not stop at oil-free screw compressors: all water-cooled oil-free models from 45 to 355 kW can be used to save energy and thus achieve a service water temperature of 90 °C with a heat utilisation of 94 percent.

Cost example 1 : Direct recovery

The topic of saving is in the air

BOGE offers various options for utilising the heat from the compression process. The simplest is the direct utilisation of the warm exhaust air, e.g. to heat a work area or warehouse. If you consider that, in principle, up to 94 per cent of the energy supplied in compressed air production is available as usable heat for other purposes, it becomes clear how much energy is saved per compressor.

The built-in savings effect

BOGE duotherm BPT and duotherm BSW are proven systems that provide you with approx. 72% of the energy used on the compressor in the form of heat for further use. In both cases, all control elements are installed in the compressor to save space. The latest solution offers a safety heat exchanger that prevents the two media from mixing in the event of a leak.
